FAQ

When we don’t settle our bodies and reflect on where we are and what’s happening around us, we cause harm. This harm can be to ourselves as well as to people around us, many of whom we care for deeply. We make choices that are driven by pace and a desire to reach the finish line rather than by listening and paying attention to the wisdom of others. And so, we are unable to participate in our communities with the care and presence we hope to.

Landing can be scary. What will we feel if we stop our constant motion? What will it be like to sit with the choices we’ve made? Sometimes it seems easier to just keep going. But in order to live whole lives rooted in our core values, we have to slow down and reflect on who we are and how we’re showing up.
-
There are many. Our workplaces and lives are humming along without collective practices to pause and take time to process what we’re up to. We’re surrounded by cultural norms that demand productivity and action. We know that slowing down is good for us, but, we lament that we don’t have time. We also face active resistance from others when we try to make space for landing. The systems we work within and many who maintain them are rarely interested in slowing down.

First, we must admit that flying without a break isn’t healthy for anyone. When we do land, forced by exhaustion and burnout, we stumble and sometimes even crash causing harm to others. We must interrogate the rituals and habits that have us so strung out. How are we using our meeting times? Is there always an expectation of forward progress or a need to take on new ventures? When do we connect about our daily experiences in our work? When do we share stories and pause to ask each other questions? How often do we make space for vulnerability? Through this process, we begin to imagine what new habits and rituals we can engage in and take small, steady steps toward them.
